Earthquake Insurance

Earthquake insurance protects your home and belongings in the event of an earthquake. Standard homeowner’s policies do not cover damage or loss as a result of an earthquake.

According to the Maryland Geological Survey, the Mid-Atlantic and Appalachian region, including Maryland, is characterized by a moderate amount of low-level earthquake activity. There are numerous fault lines in Maryland, but none is known to be active.

That being said, earthquakes do happen in Maryland. Most recently, tremors hit the Maryland after a 5.8 earthquake struck Virginia in August of 2011. Several Baltimore area buildings sustained minor damage.
